Fun Friday: A Robot
I decided to draw something random and fun on fridays. This is my first one. A Robot. I finished him up on photoshop tonight and did some playing with color and layers and effects. I like the way he turned out. Maybe next friday I will do a mermaid or a monster or something fun like that.

The Best Friend
Here is the other main character in my comic. Lewis' right hand man- Troy. Troy is a big loveable screw-up. I have been working on his look for some time but only last week I did this sketch which captures him perfectly I think. I am still working on the side view however.

I have decided to begin referring to the comic as an 'EPIC' comic. I don't know if there is such thing, but that is a great label for the story that I will tell. It is a truly epic story of good guys and bad, romance and heroics, hilarity and atmosphere! Hope I have you excited! Stay Tuned for the next sampling soon!

Introducing- The Star of the Show!
Meet Lewis,
Here is the star of my show. He is unique. He basically looks the same as when I drew him 3 years ago except he has gotten more polished of course. Lewis and his best friend are the basis of the strip. No, he isn't an elf. He gets that alot.
I have been drawing since I was 5. Of course that is true for everyone. But when most stopped drawing and started being "cool" I just kept on drawing. It was a major part of my identity when I was growing up. In high school I was greatly encouraged to go to college in art whereas if not for this skill I don't think anyone would have urged me to go. I lived in an ultra rural area and was only one of about 3 or 4 in my class who actually went to college. The other two or three were top of the class in academics. I was middle of the class and had no credentials to my name except Vice president of 4-H. (nobody else ran) My grandparents raised me and they had never dreamed I would go to college. A lady I babysat for was going to college at night and she taught me how to apply for financial aid. An great uncle out in Texas had advised me to get out of that small town and stay out of there! I had no vehicle and $20 in my pocket when I got a ride to campus and began an amazing ride that opened up the world to me. God certainly used that talent in my life to lead me to better things. Sometimes I think that possibly I will still be able to use my skills to do something awesome, one of the things I have dreamed of since I was a teen. I have more important priorities in my life, but if God wants to bless me through my art then I still have to apply the elbow grease and do the work. That is what this blog is about.

A window into my imagination
As you will soon see, the purpose of this blog is really to get me to begin drawing on a regular basis again. I have been very random with my drawing over the last few years and yet my cartoon drawing has managed to improve exponentially through the brief periods that I have practiced. About 3 years ago I had the "big idea" which will one day become my comic strip. The grand plan is to complete almost the entire run of the strip before ever submitting it for publishing or self-publishing it. For this reason, I am a little hush-hush about some of the key elements of the story and characters. Regardless, I have decided to share what I can in the hopes of keeping it fresh in my mind and hopefully picking up some motivation, encouragement and even some fans along the way! Thanks for stopping by, as a sneak peek at what you will be seeing on this blog- here is a sketch of one of my comic strip characters. More will come soon!
Here is a sketch of the main female character. I have been working on her a little this week, she has been lacking in the past (I have been concentrating on the more important guy characters) but is now beginning to shape up nicely. She is pretty important, being the love interest of the hero. I have been debating about her name. Maybe someone can suggest a name for her. I have toyed with 'Mary' and 'Penny'. She is definitely a girl next door type. And no, just because she has glasses does not mean she is modeled after me. Any name suggestions will be appreciated. I also like 'Marla'.
Oh, perhaps I should mention that the type of comic strip I am creating may be unlike any that you have seen or read in your local funny papers. This strip will have an ongoing story that when put together as a whole could just as easily be made into a graphic novel or book. It is more complex than you might think and I think very original too.
